The Synod of Alaska-Northwest is made up of 7 Presbyteries encompassing most of the state of Washington, Northern Idaho and the state of Alaska. There are 268 churches within our borders with some 58,453 worshippers. We are diverse: our churches range from large, inner-city congregations to small Native Alaskan village churches. The median size of our congregations is just over 100.
There are 2 affiliated institutes of higher education within our bounds: Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska and Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Our presbyteries operate and support 7 camps in the Synod.
Mission and Services
The Synod of AK-NW provides training in Interim Ministry, Permanent Judicial Committee, Trustee training, and sexual harassment prevention training. We offer our presbyteries and congregations free web hosting and email, and financial services through our Mission Development Certificates Loan Program. Whitworth University offers a variety of seminars, retreats, and training programs, including Commissioned Lay Pastor training.
