Supporting each other through mission
            in the Synod of Alaska-Northwest

In Mission Together

Are you curious about what kinds of mission and ministry other presbyteries are sponsoring in our Synod? Does your church want to broaden the scope of your giving to include mission opportunities in other parts Washington, Idaho, and Alaska? Do you want to support the efforts of our Presbyterian Women in their global projects? This webpage highlights Presbytery mission, and provides an easy opportunity for congregations to support a broad range of missions within our Synod. Presbyterian Women reach beyond the boundaries of our Synod to the people who ride the paths and plant the palms in the Congo.

Oh God, capture our hearts for the sake of the gospel!

HEATING OIL FOR CHURCHES
You can help churches in the Presbytery of Yukon by providing an energy supplement to help with the high cost of heating oil for churches and manses. The Anchorage Daily News reported that fuel in Alaskan villages costs from $2 per gallon to $4 more per gallon in rural Alaska than in Anchorage. The average difference (median) would be $3 per gallon, which is primarily the cost of shipping.

Warm Up a Congregation of God's Truly Frozen Chosen: $300 to ship 100 gallons of heating oil to a village church in rural Alaska.

BUILDING FUND FOR A NEW CHURCH IN GAMBELL
Gambell, Alaska is located on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. The Presbytery of Yukon hopes to build a new church in the summer of 2010. The total cost is now projected at $1.5 million, with $500,000 already raised. Because the church qualifies for matching grants on the $500,000 already raised, we believe that we only have another $500,000 to go. Find out more about Gambell:

PW PALM PROJECT
The Presbyterian Women Palm Project is a new mission program in which groups or individuals can make donations for the establishment of palm plantations in Congo, once the world’s largest producer of palm oil. The destruction of agricultural capabilities in Congo has forced the country to import cooking oil from Malaysia for its domestic use. Rather than continuing this dependency, the Congolese could plant new varieties of palms, providing both needed palm oil and income. This opportunity does not require huge financial investments, but can have great returns.

A $20 gift to the Palm Project will purchase about 10 plants! Click Here to Donate ONLINE!

BICYCLES FOR CONGO
In many places throughout Congo, roads can be treacherous for vehicles, and the trucks in working condition are often too expensive for most villagers to rent. Given these restraints, the bicycle is the best way to transport goods. A family with access to a bicycle has the strongest family member — usually an older son — push the bike from their remote village to a city market, loaded with up to 400 pounds of produce. The biker will sell the produce at the city market and buy hard-to-find items for the village, such as sugar, salt and clothing — and then push the bike back to the village.

An $80 gift buys a quality bike for a Congolese family to haul produce. Click Here to Donate ONLINE!
