Every ministry, church, fellowship, and presbytery in our Synod should have the ability to create beautiful, dynamic web pages. Smaller churches often have neither the budget or staff to accomplish this, so we offer free web hosting with tools that are easy to use, and support to help you get started.
The web tool that we use is called DotNetNuke (DNN), a powerful web development tool and content management system. Through the Synod webhosting, you have:
- The tools you need to build your Web Site (Build your web site with DotNetNuke)
- access to all of our customized modules and web features including flash-based image managers, announcements and news modules, calendars, online newsletters, and online donations tools,
- a full-featured text editing tool,
- hundreds of skins and web site designs,
- virtually unlimited storage space for audio and video sermons, classes, music, and other media,
- Servers located at Whitworth University with a very fast, stable connection,
- Full Folder and file security built in
To support you in your efforts to build a website the Synod can:
- Help you with the set up and design of your site, and provide you with some pre-made sample templates.
- Install the skin, and provide simple customizations such as replacing graphics in skins.
- Teach you how to do basic tasks, such as creating pages, adding modules, work with calendars, add graphics, and transferring content from an existing site.
- Provide a discount for more advanced web customization.
- Provide online training, documentation for some of the modules, and offer a one-day training courses 1-2 times a year.
- Provide ongoing phone and email support as needed.
What We Can't Do
Due to support limitations, we can not host any web pages not based off of DNN.
What about Wordpress, Joomla or Drupal? These systems are wonderful, but because of service time it is not possible to put them up on our system and be able to teach people how to use them. These systems are based off of articles and blog systems, and it can be difficult to teach newer users to think in those terms. We chose DNN because of the ability for it to scale in complexity based off the needs of the ministry. It also has the infrastructure we need in order to offer it to so many congregations and share the resources (custom modules) between them without violating licenses. Our larger ministries contribute features they want and smaller ministries benefit from those resources. That is the heart of this ministry and DNN makes this very simple to maintain.
We also can't put up a DNN portal just for your ministry. All Portals created must fall under the master Synod Portal. This ensures that everyone gets the same modules and host access to the system is secure.
