Setting Up Outlook 2007 and Synchronizing Data
If you would like to use Microsoft Outlook 2007 for your email, calendar, tasks, etc. you first need to connect Outlook with our Exchange Server. Also, you can sync data from our server with your local computer or other device. This means that any changes you make on your computer, also changes live on the server. This is perfect for pastors and directors who need to be able to see their calendars and task lists from any location.

To setup Outlook and enable synchronization
  1. First make sure you have installed the Certificate described in Installing the Certificate.
  2. Click the Start button, and then mouse-over Microsoft Office Outlook.
  3. Right-click on Microsoft Office Outlook, and click Properties.

Note:
for this example, we will create a new profile so you can just switch profiles if you want to see your old data for any reason.
  • Click Show Profiles.

  • Click Add.

  1. In the Profile Name box, enter any name you like.
  2. Click OK.

  1. Select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box.
  2. Click Next.

  1. Select Microsoft Exchange.
  2. Click Next.

Everyone uses the Exchange Server address of mail.synodanw.org. Please note that this is not your email address; this is just the address the internet needs to correctly find our server.
  1. In the Microsoft Exchange server box, enter mail.synodanw.org.
  2. In the User Name box, enter the email address you were given (brandon@whitpres.org is used as an example below).
  3. Click More Settings.

You will get an error, which is normal.
  • Click OK to continue.

  • In the Microsoft Exchange dialog box, click Cancel.

  1. Click the Connection tab.
  2. Under Connection, select Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN).
  3. Under Outlook Anywhere, select the Connect to Microsoft Exchange Using HTTP check box. This is the option that lets you synchronize data from the server with your local computer or device.
  4. Click Exchange Proxy Settings.

This screen will look the same for everyone.
  1. Fill out all the fields and check boxes exactly as you see below.
  2. Click OK to go back one screen.
  3. Click OK again to return to the original screen.

Now you are back at the original screen.
  • Click Next.

  • Click Finish to close the wizard.
Open Outlook and it should ask for your username (which is your email address) and your password (which should have been given to you).
